This Health and Safety Policy sets out the principles and procedures followed by Cleaners W11 to protect the health, safety and welfare of our employees, contractors, clients and members of the public who may be affected by our cleaning activities. Our aim is to provide high quality cleaning services while maintaining a safe working environment at all times across our service areas.
Cleaners W11 is committed to preventing accidents, injuries and work-related ill health. We will identify, assess and control risks arising from our operations and ensure that adequate resources are provided to implement this policy effectively.
Our main health and safety objectives are to:

Management at Cleaners W11 has overall responsibility for implementing this Health and Safety Policy and for ensuring that health and safety considerations are integrated into all aspects of our cleaning services.
Management will:
Regularly review this policy and associated procedures to ensure they remain suitable and effective.
Carry out and document risk assessments for all significant cleaning tasks and service areas.
Provide suitable personal protective equipment and ensure its proper use and maintenance.
Ensure that all equipment, tools and materials used in cleaning work are safe, fit for purpose and properly stored.
Investigate any accidents, incidents or near misses to identify root causes and prevent recurrence.
Every cleaner and member of staff has an important role in maintaining a safe working environment. All employees are required to:
Take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work.
Follow all safe working procedures, training and instructions provided by Cleaners W11.
Use personal protective equipment and safety equipment correctly and report any defects immediately.
Report hazards, unsafe conditions, accidents and near misses to their supervisor without delay.
Cooperate with management in the implementation and improvement of health and safety measures.
Cleaners W11 carries out regular risk assessments for domestic and commercial cleaning tasks, including routine, deep and specialist cleaning. These assessments identify hazards such as slips and trips, manual handling, exposure to cleaning chemicals, working at height on small step ladders and working alone.
From these assessments we develop safe working procedures that detail the correct methods for carrying out tasks, the controls to be used and the appropriate personal protective equipment. These procedures are communicated to all relevant staff and reviewed in line with service changes or after significant incidents.
Cleaning chemicals are selected and used with care to minimise risk to staff, clients and building users. For all hazardous substances, we obtain and review safety data sheets and carry out specific risk assessments.
Employees are trained to:
Read and follow product labels and instructions.
Use the correct dilution rates and never mix incompatible products.
Store chemicals securely, in original containers and away from children and unauthorised persons.
Wear suitable gloves, eye protection or other protective equipment where required.
Avoid spraying chemicals near electrical equipment or food preparation areas unless specifically approved and controlled.
Many cleaning tasks involve lifting, carrying or moving equipment and materials. Cleaners W11 provides manual handling training and aims to reduce manual handling risks through the use of appropriate equipment such as trolleys and lightweight tools.
Staff are instructed to:
Avoid unnecessary lifting and seek assistance with heavy or awkward loads.
Use correct posture and lifting techniques.
Check that vacuums, mops, poles and other tools are in good condition before use.
Ensure cables are routed safely to avoid trip hazards and damage.
Slips and trips are common causes of injury during cleaning activities. To reduce these risks, our cleaners:
Use warning signs when floors are wet or cleaning is in progress.
Work in sections to keep routes clear wherever possible.
Remove waste and used materials promptly and dispose of them safely.
Ensure good housekeeping, keeping equipment organised and stored in designated locations.
Where cleaners work alone, particularly in early mornings, evenings or at lower occupancy sites, additional precautions are taken. These may include pre-agreed check in arrangements, secure access procedures and clear protocols for emergencies.
Employees must not place themselves at risk during lone working and should withdraw from any situation where they feel unsafe, reporting concerns to management as soon as possible.
All new employees receive health and safety induction training, covering company procedures, emergency arrangements, safe use of cleaning products and equipment, and site specific rules where applicable.
Ongoing training is provided as tasks, equipment or legislation change. Supervisors monitor working practices to ensure procedures are followed and provide coaching where needed.
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported promptly. This enables appropriate first aid, follow up support and investigation. Records are maintained to help identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Emergency procedures, including fire safety and evacuation routes, are communicated to staff working at client premises. Employees must familiarise themselves with the specific arrangements for each site they visit.
Cleaners W11 regularly monitors health and safety performance through inspections, feedback from staff and clients, and review of incident records. The findings are used to update risk assessments, procedures and training.
